23rd Great Walk Sees Record Number Register
Sheila Catherwood An incredible record breaker has taken place for the 23rd annual Great Walk, with registration at a whopping number of 970 as of Friday, May 20. As usual, the Head Bay Road will be closed from 4:00am to 4:00pm, and will be patrolled by the Tahsis Rangers. Something new for this year's "tremendous trek" however is the new finish line at Captain Meares School, where the awards ceremonies will also take place. The Great Walk committee realized the previous one at the Rec Centre was too small for the vast amount of participants registered, and felt it would be better to split the event over two buildings. |

Once the "prestigious pedestrians" cross the finish line, the Rec Centre facilities will be free for those who wish to eat, shower, sauna, and reclaim their baggage. Normal services in the facility will be suspended for the public on this day. Another new addition to the event is a bus that will leave Tahsis at 3:30pm for those who do not wish to wait until 10:30pm for the later bus. As in the past, Tahsis and Gold River will have many new and old faces in our Villages on June 3, with participants from as far as Florida and Wisconsin.
