Great Walk video airing on Ch. 10
The Great Walk is 63 and-one-half kilometers ~ 40 miles - through the beautiful and rugged countryside between Tahsis and Gold River.
Every year, on the first weekend in June, hundreds of people come from all over the world to make the great trek that starts at 4 a.m., and ends anything up to 17 hours later.
A short promotional video based on the 1999 Great Walk airs on TV-10 in Campbell River on Feb. 2, at 7 PM.
The video was made as a community service by two students from the Vancouver Film School and shows off the volunteer spirit and unique nature of the event.
Participants love the grueling walk and often come again and again.
They say it's one of the best-organized events of its kind and the most community-spirited.
It's strictly non-commercial and it's set in some of BC's finest outdoor sport country. On top of that, it raises thousands of dollars for charity. There's also information included in the program about the Great Walk's ongoing Web site with photos, an elevation map of the route, lists of past participants and the latest news about Great Walk 2000.
