Oprah invited to Great Walk

Once again, Oprah Winfrey has been invited to take part in the Great Walk from Gold River to Tahsis.
"Oprah's participation would bring major media attention to the event while making an enormous amount of money for charity which, after all, is what we're all about" said Grant Skinner, event organizer for the 24th Annual Great Walk.
Skinner said invitations have gone out to other local celebrities such as BCTV's news anchor Pamela Martin.
During the 1998 Great Walk there was much speculation as to whether or not Oprah would arrive in Gold River and walk the Walk!
She didn't, but event organizers said they did not want her to think that she'd been forgotten.
A Great Walk registration form was sent to her a couple of months ago.
At press time, registration for this year's Great Walk was over 900. The last day to register for the Great Walk is May 22.
The 63.5-kilometre (40-mile) trek sets out of Gold River at 4 AM on June 2. The event is sponsored by the Tahsis Lions Club.
